On August 1, 2001 Merle Peirce and Russ Goodman travelled to Washington, DC to retreive a 1995 Cray J916 donated by the Georgetown University Medical Centre. Formerly used in a cancer research programme, a companion Vicom imaging computer and its Sun Sparcserver 470 front end was also donated. This donation was facilited by Adil Alaoui of the Share the Technology Recycling Project.
The donation was assisted by Adil himself, and assistant Albert Green, pictured in the second picture.
However, the beautiful StorageTek tape drive was unable to be acquired due to time constraints, pictured at bottom.
