Iomega Zip Drive

Zip Drives filled a need of the times when it was released in 1994.

At the time, the amount of data that users wanted to be able to carry from place to place was getting bigger, and the 3.5'' 1.44MB floppy disk was not fulfilling that need anymore.

The original Zip disk has a 100MB capacity. Later drives bumped that capacity to 250MB, and then to 750MB.

The drives were available as internal, and external. Using IDE, Parallel, SCSI, USB, and Fireware as an interface to connect it to Computers at the the time. Some versions even found their way in musical equipment, like Samplers.

Eventually, USB flash memory and record-able CDs replaced the convenience of Zip disks.
