Raytheon DataRay 401 Punched Card Reader

This punched card reader was donated by the New England Wireless and Steam Museum. It is unused and in the original Styrofoam packaging.

It was originally configured to read about 20 columns from a punched card that is about 1/4 the width of a normal 80 column card. We moved the stops so that an 80 column card would fit into the carriage, but there was no way to configure it to read all 80 columns. Now it will read 40 columns.

It has what looks like part of a telephone dialer to move the carriage at a constant speed. There are no electronics inside.

We don't have any information on what it was connected to or what it was used for. Google finds nothing on this device.
